Uncle Roger Data Scientist

Uncle Roger (real name Nigel Ng) is a very popular YouTube comedian, who shot to fame with his “egg fried rice” critique videos. Not many people know that Uncle Roger was actually a bona fide Data Scientist, who graduated from Northwestern University.

His classic viral video is the video critiquing BBC’s egg fried rice recipe. It has struck a chord with many Asians internationally, since the way BBC prepares egg fried rice is totally “wrong”, according to the traditional way fried rice is made in Asia.

Uncle Roger Rice Video

The below video is the classic original “egg fried rice” video that propelled Uncle Roger to stardom on YouTube. As of November 2020, this video has hit 18 million views, which is considered a lot on YouTube. Based on an estimate of USD$1-$5 CPM, this video alone has netted Uncle Roger USD$18,000 to $90,000.

As a continuation, Uncle Roger has also made various videos related to egg fried rice, for example the video featuring Gordon Ramsay.

Another popular video is the one featuring Jamie Oliver.

Nigel Ng (Uncle Roger) Data Scientist

What is not known by many is that Uncle Roger (aka Nigel Ng) used to be a data scientist, dubbed the “sexiest job of the 21st Century”.  Nigel Ng first studied at Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuala Lumpur, and then moved to the US to pursue his studies at Northwestern University. He then relocated to London to work as a data scientist at various companies, before transitioning to comedy full time in 2019.

Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) even has a GitHub page featuring the code he wrote: https://github.com/nigeljyng.  From his GitHub code, we can see that he works with Deep Learning using Keras.

Uncle Roger is actually quite young, his age is only 29 years old, and he is born on 15 March 1991.

Uncle Roger Wife

Uncle Roger’s ex-wife is a fictional character named “Aunty Helen”. Not much is known about “Aunty Helen”, though there is a fan-made horror Halloween short movie featuring Aunty Helen.

Uncle Roger Fuiyoh and Haiya

Uncle Roger’s favorite slang is “Fuiyoh” and “Haiya”. “Fuiyoh” appears to be a Manglish (Malaysian English) slang word, spelled as “Fuyoh” on Wikipedia. It means exclamation of amazement / wonder / marvel, basically same meaning as “Wow!” or “Awesome!”.

“Haiya” also appears to be a Manglish (Malaysian English) word, spelled as “Aiya” on Wikipedia. It is a word to express surprise or dismay (more of dismay).

Uncle Roger Net Worth and Social Blade

According to Social Blade, Uncle Roger earns a whopping USD $77.5K – $1.2M based on his YouTube ad revenue alone. The range is huge due to fluctuations in YouTube CPM (cost per thousand views) based on region and other factors. But even the lower range USD $77.5k is a very high amount for a new channel like Uncle Roger (mrnigelng).

This shows that humor, or comedy, has timeless appeal. Even in the ancient times, or the futuristic era, laughter is always the best medicine.
