Our Maths tutor, Dr Wu (Singapore Citizen), has extensive experience (more than 15 years) in tutoring mathematics. Dr Wu has been teaching mathematics since 2006.

Dr Wu is patient with students, and will explain the concepts clearly to them. He is encouraging to weaker students, while stronger students will not feel bored as Dr Wu will provide sufficiently challenging exercises for them to learn more. In short, every student should experience an improvement after tuition.

Dr Wu graduated with PhD and B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in Mathematics (National University of Singapore).

NUS is ranked Top in Asia, and Top 10 in the world in the subject of Mathematics.

We strongly believe that the tutor’s personality and character is just as important as his academic qualifications. For Maths Tutors, patience when explaining to students is absolutely necessary.

Despite Dr Wu’s academic qualifications, he remains a humble and patient teacher. Also, parents can rest assured that Dr Wu teaches at a level that students can fully understand. For A Levels, we will try to teach it in a clear and simple way such that even a Sec 3/4 student can understand. For O Levels, we will teach it such that even Sec 1/2 students can understand, and so on.

Dr Wu is just an ordinary person who has mastered the skills and techniques necessary to excel in mathematics in Singapore. Despite being in the Gifted Education Programme from Primary to Secondary school, Dr Wu’s secret to excelling in Maths is not genius nor giftedness but hard work and the Maths techniques and tips he has discovered by himself while navigating through the Singapore education system.

He would like to teach these techniques to students, hence choosing to become a Mathematics tutor. Dr Wu has developed his own methods to check the answer, remember formulas (with understanding), which has helped a lot of students. Many Math questions can be checked easily, leading to the student being 100% confident of their answer even before the teacher marks it, and reducing the rates of careless mistakes.

Dr Wu is also the elder brother of two medical students. His younger brother is studying Medicine at Monash University, and his younger sister is studying Medicine at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.

Dr Wu sincerely believes in the proverb of “青出于蓝而胜于蓝“, which means “the student surpasses the teacher“. Through teaching students how to excel in Mathematics, Dr Wu hopes to build a solid Mathematical foundation for all students to excel in their future careers.

Teaching Goals:

The teaching goals are to enable the student to understand concepts in the syllabus, promote interest in the subject, and to explain clearly the methods to solve Math problems. Maths is a very cumulative subject, a solid foundation is needed to progress to the next level. We sincerely look forward to helping more students build a strong foundation in Mathematics.

For Mathematics, we believe that the best way to progress is through practice and understanding. Techniques to check the answer and short methods to solve a question faster are useful. Perseverance is essential in Mathematics, the important thing is not to give up, and keep trying!

Dr Wu also has experience writing and editing Math books. He has written and edited several educational Maths books, and math worksheets for tuition centres.

Dr Wu also enjoys solving Math Olympiad problems in his spare time, and learning more about Math through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).
